Planning Ahead

Autumn is practically here... Well, school's started, at least. And the hot weather has already lost it's edge. Which we all know means it's almost Halloween! Halloween is the second best holiday to decorate for (Christmas being the first). Unfortunately, last year my front porch looked like it had been the victim of an overzealous, colorblind kindergartner; green and purple string lights strung haphazardly from bushes to the roof, cotton cobweb threatening to catch any trick-or-treaters who dare brave our walkway, headstones peppering the yard with no discernible pattern, pumpkins and bats and corn stalks and fake blood... Oh my. That's what happens when you let 4 females with 4 very different ideas of what Halloween should look like have their say in the decorating. But no more! This year, I've taken over. I, no one else, will be in charge of spookifying our front yard, and I couldn't be happier. Just to prove how seriously I'm taking my role, I went ahead and made a small book out of the card stock cover of an unwanted college brochure I received in the mail this morning.

Chocolate Craving Fix

Today, instead of taking advantage of the last fading days of summer by going to the lake or shopping downtown or actually setting foot outside, I've been camped out on my couch watching season 5 of Friends. Getting the ball rolling

The hardest part about making a blog isn't coming up with the CSS code, or finding the perfect picture for your logo, or picking the most original, attention grabbing title you possibly can from your personal list of original, attention grabbing titles for things. The hardest part about making a blog is figuring out what to write about. Because as much as we (We being the teenage population of the internet) would like to pretend that the photo sharing, DIY trying, Photoshop flaunting side of blogging is the only side of blogging; it isn't. We're deluding ourselves in order to avoid participating in the basest form of communication, because who wouldn't rather re-blog thousands of photos and memes than take the time to write out their thoughts and experiences? (What? WRITING? Like in SCHOOL? Like ESSAYS?!?&* Forget that noise. I'm going back to Tumblr to find pictures of kittens. Re-blogging pictures of kittens expresses who I am as well as sharing the angst of my tortured teenage soul with my internet brethren.)
Regardless of what the majority of my generation has become intent on believing, blogs should have a greater purpose than just sharing tired content. The internet is the greatest learning tool society has been given yet, and this is my chance to add something to it. Three cheers for original content! "Hip hip, hooray! Hip hip...." Anyway.
